Human mind: How much we know about ourselves

Psychology and human mind research

We do many kinds of work every day. Conscious or unconscious, we work or do many things. In most cases, we do not know why we do these things! Socrates had a fair discussion with the doctrine of ‘know yourself.’ Throughout his life, he has spent this in himself knowing. Although Socrates’s “Know Yourself” method was enough for us to know yourself, still, in reality, we know very little about ourself. It is quite awkward, but it is true that we know more about others than we know about ourselves. We may not know much about ourselves, even if we can catch up with some of the other things, good, bad, praising and condemning others.

Scientists have been trying to find out the answers about how we perceive the world for a long time and control our behavior. They have become very successful at this stage of science, and they have been able to unravel the many psychological causes of human being. In today’s discussion, we will discuss some human behaviors or some common man’s instincts. Which we usually do. It may be conscious or unconscious!

We all have some power of evil

Even though it is strange to hear it is true, all of us have a peculiar ability to do evil, and we enjoy doing evil when we get the opportunity. You may have received a lot of detail about this topic from the surrounding life. Our experiences on this path of life are very bitter and incredible! Then let’s know the essence of research on this topic.

The most famous test in the history of psychology is that it is the Year 1971. Stanford prison gave a psychology study on how social status can affect human behavior. The psychologist Phil Zimbardo had led this research. Researchers have become one at the Stanford Cyeing basement.

A fake prison was made there. That is, it looked like a prison, but it was not a prison. Twenty-four Postgraduate Volunteers were selected to act as fictitious imprisoned prisoners and guardians. There was no record of any religious work before them, and they were mentally wholly healthy. Researchers used hidden cameras to monitor detainees (who spend 24 hours in jail) and guard (who share time with eight hours). The experiment that was supposed to last for two weeks, and it postponed after six days. In fact, it would be wrong to say; The authorities were forced to postpone. The guards were severely harassed and sometimes they used to commit abusive mental torture to the prisoners.

Zimbardo said, “The guards increased their aggression against the prisoners, naked them, kept a bag on their heads, and finally turned them into sexual harassment. Six days later, I had to finish it because it was out of control – I could not sleep at night because the guards did not know how the prisoners sitting. ”

Only innocent people convicted of the brutal punishment for being held captive. On the other hand, regardless of innocence, the guardians had repressed them due to emotional or responsible reasons. This is one of the typical instances of people. We do not hesitate to abuse the opportunity. And it is said that man has the power of ordinary evil or the potential to be lost. Perhaps, for this reason, the poet said, “I will be lost, will!”

We do not observe the surrounding environment

Our general tendency is that we do not closely monitor the situation around us. Do you know what’s happening around you? You do not even know how much you are around in the neighborhood around you! In 1998, researchers from Harvard and Kent State University examined a psychology test with pedestrians on a college campus. The purpose of the experiment was to see how many people in them are looking at the surrounding environment.

In the examination, researchers used an actor in their research work. During the experiment, the actor went to the pedestrians and searched for some other way. When the pedestrians were directing that path, at the same time, two people walked with a big wooden door in between those actors and walkers, and for which the actors and pedestrians could not see each other for a few seconds. And during this time, the other actor, who removed from the previous actor, and placed another actor who had the same height and health. Surprisingly, more than half of the participants did not follow this transition!

Those who can wait patiently for good, they are more successful later

The more you expect, then you will be more successful than the others. The matter can also explain by greed. If you can suppress your greed, make sure that the future is waiting for you with special awards. In the late 1960s, a test of Stanford University examined a psychology test to prevent the temptation of instant gratification. They selected some children who never admitted to the school before. The experiment examined the temptation of children. And their self-control capabilities and self-discipline also have good results.

In the examination, a lot of marshmallows placed on a plate in front of four-year-old children and the researchers told the children that they could now eat these marshmallows or they could wait until the researchers returned 15 minutes later. If they could expect, there was also a prize arrangement. Because the researchers come back and give them two additional marshmallows.

According to Time’s report, although most children said they would wait. Almost everyone tried to suppress their greed. But before the researchers returned, many children ate marshmallows. Those children who had been able to suppress their desire for 15 minutes, used some techniques. For example, by shutting eyes or by reversing it.

The long-term results of the experiment were quite surprising. Later, the following characteristics obtained found among those children who were waiting:

Their behavioral problems, the tendency of being attracted to narcotics and obesity was fewer than others.

And they were more successful later in life than others who could not wait until the end.

So, if you can wait, then you will be more successful than others.

When we get the power, we abuse it!

If we have the power, it is a mental disorder to abuse power. In general, we love or like to abuse power at some stage of life. There is also a psychological explanation behind it. Three students were sent to write a review of a journal published in a 2003 study. Two students instructed to write papers. And another person taught to assess the documents and to determine how much each student would give. In the middle of their work, the researchers left five cookies (one type of food) on a plate. The last cookie was never eaten (because they all had four). The Leader among them, he almost always consumes the fourth cookie, and the last cookie was also his luck. It is a bit psychologically accepted that everyone who gets leads will get more shares. Leaders also kept this idea in their mind. This bizarre idea exists in almost every case of the society.

We need only one thing to be happy

How much we can do to be satisfied in life! Make money, buy houses, buy cars. But we never wanted to know where our real happiness! Nothing more to be happy, just one thing is very much needed. And psychologist researchers have expressed the feeling of love as a thing.

The Harvard Grant study has been managed for 75 years. One of the most protracted psychology research in the world. Started with men’s graduates from Harvard (1938-1939) (it held strengthened in the nineties). This study regularly collects various aspects of the life of graduates. The results of multiple studies on the psychology of the past have said that, when you experience the long-term happiness and what you have lost in life and calculate what you have forgotten, love will establish as the real reality of all things.

The long-term director of the study, psychologist Jorge Valent said, ‘There are two pillars of happiness: one is love, and one can find ways to fight with life. And the way to fight this is to find ways that it can not move away from love.’

Those who are living alone cannot think themselves happy. Again, people who live alone after a lifetime are more likely to have physical, mental illnesses with many people.

We can understand the mistakes from our mind

Every day we make mistakes. We keep repeating the same mistakes repeatedly. There is an innate aspect of the human mind; we are easily sympathetic to the suffering of others. But why we behave like this, the answer was unknown. Psychologists have found answers to this question for many years.

In 1961, the famous psychologist Stanley Milgram conducted research that was quite famous. His research was such that if a person asked to harm someone else, then how much he will obey the authority! And then how intensely the conflict between his morality and the obligation to fulfill his duties will hold intensified.

Suppose your boss asks you to kill a person or tortured it unjustly. In this case, how much you will obey your boss! Also, suppose you are abusing someone according to your boss. But it is entirely done by the order, or your mind and you are doing it for the wrongdoing! Stanley arranged the research to find an equation between your boss and the wishes of your mind.

In this case, Stanley chose the war. Surprised by how the war criminals caused one of the worst killings in history by Hitler! Milligram wanted to keep an eye on that topic during the Nazi war, how criminals could remain silent during the mass murder. He used two people for this test. One was in the role of the teacher, and the other was the role of the student. For students, a test signifies arranged where their electric shock will transmit and teachers will supervise it. Some students were not shocked. Some were put in another room.

Milligram started an audio recording that seemed to be heard that the other side was suffering from an electric shock. If the teacher wanted to stop the excitement to reduce the pain of the student, then the examiner (Milgram) would give him signals to work with poking. Milligram found out that during the test, 65% of the teachers in the role of the teacher spent a harrowing and uncomfortable situation. Which indicates a lot of Hitler’s followers. The teachers could not stop the torture of their students just as they did, just as the war criminals of the Nazi war could not go against Hitler’s words.

According to journalist Michael Sharma,

“Being compassionate to others, feeling sympathetic, and some other members of the same group fall into the morality of human beings, even the unreasonable fear of foreigners, torturing the tribes unjustly, behaving cruelly and somehow involves this nature.”

We always try to maximize our experience

One of the most important features of our psyche is that we are born with a strange tendency to see ourselves bigger than others. We do not want to agree on anything in the world. Even our work range in the workplace is small, but we can tell others that the power is in my hands! If we go to a new job, we all love the people of the past to make the lies false. There are many examples of this around us.

Psychologist Leon Festinger’s 1959 test is a clear example of this theory. Each of the participants in the examination asked Lyon to do some tedious work. For example, the wood should rotate for an hour by putting it in a wooden cart. So after doing this annoying job, some of them got $ 1, and some got $ 20. And in exchange for this dollar, they will tell the story of those researchers who have stood up to make this work enjoyable.

The test showed that those who got $ 1 were claiming the work to be more enjoyable. And for those who got $ 20, they said comparatively less enjoyable. What does this mean? Those who got more money, they thought that they got the right price for unemployed for 1 hour. But those who got only $ 1, they were lying and wanted to judge their time spent once more. So long as they cannot reach their desired satisfaction levels, they have to decide the work of wood bending.

So what do we understand from above discussion? Our time spent, and we always like to give a great seat to the acquired experience. We often lie to ourselves to prove that this world is a beautiful and logical place. No matter how it is! But we do that.

Hopefully, you have learned new things from this post. The human mind is full of mystery. Scientists have been working relentlessly to solve this mystery. Although all the problems of Human Behavior rest not yet completed, the light of the dark will detect in the light of all the secrets.
